How To Get Rid Of Stickers In Lawn?
We have a product that can be applied with the 9-step treatment at no additional cost to eliminate stickers but it can only be applied in the summers when temperatures reach 90 degrees as it is a contact kill. Pre/Post-emergent will help prevent them from germinating in the spring.
Treatment Approach:
- Have to attack stickers from multiple angles
- 70-80% effective after 1 year
- Will see continuing improvement with ongoing treatments
Treatment:
- Round 1 or 2 Pre-emergents (pre-ems last approx. 3 months)
Celsius application
- Must be applied with temp over 90 degrees
- Included in 9-step lawn treatments
- No extra charge for Celsius
- Spot treatment in Round 4 and 6
- Broadcast (spread over entire lawn) in Round 5
- MUST add in notes that customer has stickers
- There are times when techs run out of Celsius in Round 4 7 6 and they have to skip the application on subsequent yards that day
- Celsius is an expensive product (one of the most expensive we carry)
Fertilizer
- Same as lawn fertilizer
- Cause uptake of Nitrogen
-
Important:
- Actual burrs will still be present; there is no way to get rid of them with our treatments
- Burrs (the seed) can lay dormant for up to 7 years
- Burrs wait for favorable conditions to germinate
- Plant and burr can stand temperatures from 0 to 115 degrees F
- Can see relatively few sticker plants for several years, seemingly under control, then, when favorable conditions arise, the number of plants can explode
Customer Follow-through
- Customer should always assume they have stickers and treat accordingly
- Encourage customer to attach piece of carpet to a chain and pull it behind lawn mower
- Throw away carpet after use
- This is only method to get existing burrs out of lawn
