When Should I Water After Treatment?

Our general instructions are to wait between 24-72 hours to water after treatment. We recommend you mow between 48-72 hours after treatment, always mowing after you water.

GROWING SEASON WATERING -
Lawns need at least 1 inch of water per week and roughly 1-1.5 inches of water per week during the hottest and driest months. Usually, 2-3 times per week is fine to water, as long as we do get some rainfall from time to time.
Pop up heads need to water at least 20 minutes per zone and rotary heads need to water 40 minutes long. This allows the water to get down deeper into the soil to the roots of at least 6 inches. If you do not water long enough, you will only be watering the top inch of the soil. Light watering only dampens the lawn and can harm your grass.

CYCLE AND SOAK -
This method of applying water to the landscape is made up of multiple cycles for each station, with 30 to 60 minutes between cycles for the water to soak into the soil.

The first cycle will break the surface tension of the soil and saturate the top layer of soil.

The second cycle infiltrates the soil more efficiently and deeply after the first cycle.

For example: if you have determined you need to run a sprinkler station for 20 minutes, schedule your controller to run the station 2 times for 10 minutes per zone. If a slope or runoff is involved, run the station several more times in shorter increments.

WINTER WATERING – VERY IMPORTANT
For those of you who use our lawn treatment program, we typically apply our applications every 4-6 weeks; however, that is only an average. Our applications are not applied based on a calendar date, instead they are applied at the optimal time of effectiveness which is decided upon by the weather and soil temperature, and this helps prepare your lawn for spring.

Most homeowners believe it is okay to turn off their sprinkler system in the winter, but the opposite is correct. Not only do the winter treatments need to be watered in just as the spring and summer applications do, but regular watering during the winter will protect your foundation and keep your system in working order and not freeze. On average, your sprinklers need to run about once a month if there is no rain. This will give enough moisture to the roots and the soil will retain moisture during winter months and keep your grass healthy and protected from drying out during winter weather.

***If you water with a portable sprinkler, please water early in the morning and 40 minutes per section. If you are noticing run-off, cut the time down to 15 – 20 minutes and use the cycle and soak option.
